2010 Ways of Knowing:
Whole Systems Healing Theories,
Integrative Practices,
and Applications

The Life Science Foundation and the Center for Spirituality & Healing at the University of Minnesota are pleased to announce the 4th Annual Ways of Knowing (WOK) Symposium, June 1 - June 4, 2010 at Minnesota’s beautiful Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.

Entrance at the Landscape Arborteum
The Landscape Arborteum

Whole Systems Healing explores how to bring the interrelated workings of mind, psyche, body, and environment into dynamic balance.  It seeks to reveal what is possible if we know how to activate reverence, tap into collaborative power for social change, manage chaos and complexity, and catalyze our personal and collective wisdom.

To facilitate our exploration, we've attracted several amazing thought leaders from across the country. As of this writing, Alan Briskin, co-author of The Power of Collective Wisdom, will help tap our individual and community collective wisdom and international appreciative inquiry expert Diana Whitney,  an international consultant for large-scale changes in organizations, will share appreciative inquiry, a social change methodology. Paul Schultz an Ojibwe traditional healer loved by the WOK community, will focus on Indigenous views of collective wisdom and help create a sacred container for our journey together. Orland Bishop, whose depth of African wisdom captivated us last year, will also be with us again. Inspirational speaker, Mary Jo Kreitzer will provide an overview of Whole Systems Healing that educates and catalyzes our spirits.  Other facilitators include Glenda Eoyang, Wendy Morris, Terry Gips, Craig and Patricia Neal, and Eric Utne.

In 2009 the Ways of Knowing
sold out in 7 weeks.

Over half of the registrants had attended one or more previous Symposium. Participants say:

The content each year has nourished my
    meditation and professional practices in
ways that I still find surprising.

I enjoy the heartfelt connections with
   like-minded professionals.

Ways of Knowing feels like I’ve come home.
The Symposiums have transformed my
awareness and supported what I’ve always
    thought true.

I wouldn’t miss it for the world. The one
conference I look forward to every year.”

The Symposium will feature the debut performance of Nature, a play inspired by the lives and philosophies of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau.  Led by Emerson's direct descendent, Tyson Forbes Lien, actor and co-artistic director of TigerLions Arts, Nature challenges us to connect with nature's wisdom and hone our capacities to be agents of social healing and environmental restoration.

The Ways of Knowing Symposiums transcend content that can be conveyed in writing. With its time for silence, small group conversation tables, chances to meet and dialogue with interesting like-minded colleagues, and focus on aligning inner and outer life, the Symposium is considered a cherished jewel by those who participate year after year. It is truly a transformative learning experience.
