Taking Charge

In addition to wide spectrum of information on Integrative Healthcare and Complementary and Alternative Medicine, The University of Minnesota Center for Spirituality & Healing and Life Science Foundation’s online program, Taking Charge (www.takingcharge.csh.umn.edu), provides the public with:

• Support for creating a healthy life style
• Guidance in how to navigate today’s healthcare system
• Stories from healthcare settings.

The site also offers Your Health Planner, a unique self-evaluation and planning tool for individualized improved health and well-being.  The Planner guides the creation of a health ‘map’ and helps people identify how to enhance their health and wellbeing. PBS recognized the value of The Health Planner for the public when it chose to place it on its New Medicine website.

The Taking Charge website received national recognition in an October 2007 CNN report on Complementary Alternative Medicine and a national award for Health Care Standard of Excellence from the Web Marketing Association.

 The award, part of the 2007 Web Awards competition, recognized the site for “ourstanding achievement in website development.”  Other winners included Walt Disney Internet Group, UPS Whiteboard, and Biggs/Gilmore Agency.
