Nature — an outdoor walking play August 19th – September 5th A world premiere, Nature is a walking play that brings the audience on a journey through the natural world, telling the story of friends, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. Surrounded by nature in the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum’s Johanna Frerichs Garden for Wildlife, you will walk from one scene to the next as you watch Emerson’s and Thoreau’s historic friendship unfold. Award winning period music, improvisation, choral chanting, clear unspoken communication, and traditional dialogue join the sites, smells, and sounds of nature all around you. Tyson Forbes (TigerLion Arts) is one of the plays co-creators and a direct descent of Ralph Waldo Emerson. He has performed in regional theaters nation wide and in numerous roles at the Guthrie, most notably Thomas Jefferson in 1776. Sam Elmore, who plays Thoreau, is co-creator and best friend of Tyson Forbes. The two men, along with co-creator, Director, and Forbes’ wife Markell Keifer, developed the story using excerpts from these early American advocates for protecting and honoring the environment. Speaking of Emerson and Thoreau, and to the relevance of the play today, Tyson Forbes says, “They were both radicals of their time, calling on their peers to think for themselves and be agents of change. I believe their words and ideas are as necessary now as they were then.” Ticket Information Audience Response, Following a Preview at Ways of Knowing “Nature is brillant!” “The music was so suited for this space.
